Mele Kalikimaka

carols for folks celebrating a tropical yule

Deb in Florida asked;
"Nobody has written any good Christmas songs about sweat drenched clothing clinging to the body, and wringing out one's underwear and socks after a brisk day of Christmas cheer, have they?"

I know you wanted to hear about good Christmas songs, but other than Bing Crosby's Mele Kalikimaka , there aren't too many out there celebrating the joys of what we like to call a Gingerbread Christmas. {brown rather than white} But that doesn't mean you've been forgotten. These don't specifically mention wringing out your underwear, but here's a few that might help put you in a holiday mood...

God rest you merry gentlemen, let nothing you dismay;
Turn on that air conditioner, and enjoy Christmas Day.
The R-E-C(*) supplies the power
to run the thing all day
'Cause it's all for your comfort and joy, comfort and joy,
Yes it's all for your comfort and joy.

O holy night, the crickets gaily singing;
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth!
All day we've baked just like a Christmas cookie,
but now the night brings relief to the earth.
A few degrees,
It seems a little cooler,
The temp has lowered with the setting sun.
Now we can sleep
The heat is less oppressive
O night divine,
O night - it's cool til' morn!
O night divine, O night,
O holy night!

Sheep bells ring, are you listening,
Heat waves rise, almost glistening
The sun is so bright,
but we are alright,
walking in a pasture wonderland.

Grass is green, all around us,
Sure it's hot, but that's no fuss
The sheep are all shorn,
They won't be too warm.
Walking in a pasture wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a straw man,
We'll pretend that he's the Vet from town
He'll say: Did you drench them?
we'll say: No man,
But you can do the job
when you're around.

Later on, we'll perspire,
as we stroll through the mire
To face unafraid,
the ram in the shade,
walking in a pasture wonderland.

Deck the halls with hair from Jolly

He's our brand new rescue Collie
fa la la la la la la la la
With this heat he has been shedding
fa la la la la la la la la
Clouds of hair rise up from petting

Fast away the old coat passes
fa la la la la la la la la
In the kitchen, on the glasses
fa la la la la la la la la
Kinda spoils that toast with eggnog

When you find a hair from the dog
